Expert suggests that Delhi High Court's decision on excise policy case increases the strain on Kejriwal's political prospects.

The Delhi High Court's dismissal of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's plea challenging the legality of his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) marks a significant setback for him. The court affirmed the legality of Kejriwal's arrest and justified his remand to ED custody. In its ruling, the court clarified that the matter was a legal one concerning the accused and the ED, rather than a conflict between the central government and the Delhi Chief Minister.

Ninad Sheth, a senior journalist and columnist, provided insights into the implications of the verdict on Arvind Kejriwal's political future. Sheth highlighted that the court's decision not only denied Kejriwal's request for special treatment but also exerted moral pressure on him, prompting questions about his continued tenure as Chief Minister.

It makes his position increasingly untenable because, by denying the bail, I do not see how he can now continue as the Chief Minister because the moral obligation now really weighs on him. If you look at the structure of the AAP, it is a very person-centered party. So without Kejriwal, who will be the next chief minister, what will be the process? It is more of a cult-oriented party. Somebody had called it India's most successful startup, but once you have become a big company, you need structure, you need people to back up, you need a succession plan,” Sheth said in an interview with CNBC-TV18.
